This incredibly creamy vodka is made by the guys at Wild Island gin distillery from Colonsay. They partnered up with Langley distillers in Birmingham to bring you Brochan. Described as being “as smooth as the wave-worn pebbles” which we can absolutely attest to. They sourced oats from 3 different oat farms from around Scotland with English wheat and then use highland mountain spring water before distilling 5 times (which we think in part helps to make this the smooth tipple it is). Why oats and not just wheat as is more usual in vodka production? Oats are known to produce a creamy and rich spirit and were used frequently in vodka production throughout the UK and Ireland during the 1800s to soften and sweeten a variety of spirits (including one of our very favourites – whisky!). However this technique became increasingly less common as oats due to poor yields (meaning higher costs). Bottled at 43% ABV.
